Zelensky responded to Trump\u2019s outburst by posting on X that Ukraine was \u2018working together with America and our European partners and very much hope on US support on the path to peace\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018Peace is needed as soon as possible,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
It comes as US Vice President JD Vance accused Zelensky of \u2018needling\u2019 Trump and having a \u2018certain sense of entitlement\u2019 during their now-infamous talks at the White House last week<\/p>\n
During an interview with Fox News\u2019 Sean Hannity early on Tuesday, Mr Vance said the encounter, which happened in front of the media, \u2018really set Zelensky off\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018He showed a clear unwillingness to engage in the peace process that President Trump said is the policy,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018That\u2019s the real breakdown. I think Zelensky wasn\u2019t yet there. And frankly, still isn\u2019t there. But I think he\u2019ll get there eventually, he has to.\u2019<\/p>\n
Mr Vance confirmed Ukrainian officials made at least one attempt to restart negotiations after leaving the White House, but efforts were shut down by Mr Trump.<\/p>\n He also used the interview as an opportunity to criticise Europe\u2019s approach to the Ukraine war, suggesting leaders were saying different things in public than they were in private.<\/p>\n Speaking to Hannity, he said: \u2018Here\u2019s the problem with the Europeans \u2026 they need to be realistic and the craziest part about this, Sean, is sometimes you have European heads of state who in public will puff up their chest and say, \u2018We\u2019re in this with President Zelensky for the next 10 years.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018And in private they\u2019ll pick up the phone and say, \u201cThis can\u2019t go on forever, he has to come to the negotiating table.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018I honestly don\u2019t care what the Europeans say in public, what I care is what they say in private.<\/p>\n \u2018And what they need to be saying to President Zelensky is this can\u2019t go on forever, the bloodshed, the killing, the economic devastation, it\u2019s making everyone worse off.\u2019<\/p>\n The UK Government said this morning that it remains \u2018absolutely committed\u2019 to securing peace and will be \u2018engaging with key allies in support of this effort\u2019<\/p>\n A Government spokesperson said: \u2018We remain absolutely committed to securing a lasting peace in Ukraine and are engaging with key allies in support of this effort.
