{"id":2767,"date":"2025-03-04T20:42:33","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T20:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inhealthyzone.com\/?p=2767"},"modified":"2025-03-04T21:15:05","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T21:15:05","slug":"canad-will-impress-retaliatory-tariffs-against-the-us-trudeau-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inhealthyzone.com\/?p=2767","title":{"rendered":"Canada will impress retaliatory tariffs against the US, Trudeau says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against 155 billion Canadian dollars worth of American goods, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a press conference Tuesday.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Speaking from Ottawa, Trudeau said there was \u201cabsolutely no justification or need whatsoever\u201d for the tariffs imposed by the US on Canada, which went into effect today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States launched a trade war against Canada, its closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time they\u2019re talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin: a lying, murderous dictator. Make that make sense,\u201d the prime minister said.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister explained that 30 billion Canadian dollars worth of US goods would see tariffs immediately, while the remaining 125 billion Canadian dollars worth of goods would see tariffs in 21 days.<\/p>\n<p>Canadians are reasonable, and we are polite. But we will not back down from a fight. Not when our country \u2014 and the wellbeing of everyone in it \u2014 is at stake,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau added that Canada will file claims at the World Trade Organization, but in the meantime, \u201cour tariffs will remain in place until the US tariffs are withdrawn and not a moment sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister also again hit back against US assertions about Canada being unwilling to help in the fight against illegal fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>He said the legal pretext Trump presented for the justification of the tariffs \u2014\u201cthat Canada is apparently unwilling to help in the fight against illegal fentanyl\u201d \u2014 is \u201ctotally false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur border is already safe and secure far less than 1% of fentanyl flows and less than 1% of illegal crossings into the United States comes from Canada,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Correction: An earlier version of this post misstated the currency of the goods that will see the tariffs.
