As Sean “Diddy” Combs faces a barrage of federal charges in a closely watched trial in New York, President Donald Trump has made headlines of his own after being asked if he would pardon the disgraced rapper if found guilty.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Diddy, 55, is currently standing trial on five serious criminal charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.<\/p>\n

He has pleaded not guilty to all counts, but faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.<\/p>\n

A High-Stakes Trial with High-Profile Testimonies<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe trial, now entering its third week, has already seen shocking testimony from several key figures.<\/p>\n

Diddy\u2019s ex-girlfriend Casandra \u201cCassie\u201d Ventura took the stand to recount alleged years of abuse. Rapper Kid Cudi testified that Diddy may have been linked to the 2012 firebombing of his Porsche. A male escort known only as \u201cThe Punisher\u201d also described bizarre encounters, adding to the list of disturbing allegations.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, a judge denied the defense’s request for a mistrial, following claims that prosecutors improperly suggested Diddy had tampered with the investigation into the Porsche incident.<\/p>\n

Trump: \u201cI\u2019d Certainly Look Into the Facts\u201d<\/strong><\/span>
\nAsked during a press conference on May 30 whether he would consider pardoning Diddy, Trump didn\u2019t shut the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody\u2019s asked, but I know people are thinking about it. I think some people have been very close to asking,\u201d Trump said, according to multiple reports, including The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, I\u2019d look at what\u2019s happening, and I haven\u2019t been watching it too closely, although it\u2019s certainly getting a lot of coverage,\u201d he added. \u201cI haven\u2019t seen him. I haven\u2019t spoken to him in years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump acknowledged that he and Diddy had once been close. \u201cHe used to really like me a lot,\u201d Trump said, recalling their interactions prior to his political career. \u201cBut I think when I ran for politics, sort of, that relationship busted up from what I read,” the POTUS added.<\/p>\n

The president emphasized that personal feelings wouldn\u2019t influence his decision: \u201cIf I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don\u2019t like me, it wouldn\u2019t have any impact on me.<\/p>\n

“I would certainly look at the facts.\u201d<\/p>\n

From \u201cGood Friend\u201d to Political Distance<\/strong><\/span>
\nBack in 2012, during an episode of The Celebrity Apprentice, Trump described Diddy as a \u201cgood friend.\u201d But the tone appears to have changed since Trump entered the political arena.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou become a much different person when you run for politics and you do what\u2019s right,\u201d Trump said. \u201cOur country is doing really well because of what we\u2019re doing, so it\u2019s not a popularity contest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though he hasn\u2019t ruled out a pardon, Trump made it clear no formal request has been made. Still, he noted: \u201cI know they\u2019re thinking about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nTrump\u2019s comments come just days after he issued pardons to reality stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud. Rapper NBA YoungBoy also received clemency after serving time for gun-related offenses.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building \u2014 as a man, as a father, and as an artist,\u201d the rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

These recent pardons have fueled speculation among social media users that Trump could be positioning himself to offer Diddy similar relief.<\/p>\n

The charges Diddy faces are being brought by the powerful US Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York. With witness testimonies growing increasingly damning, and the trial expected to continue into early July, the stakes couldn\u2019t be higher for the Bad Boy Records founder.<\/p>\n
